Southend-on-Sea
The beach to the east of the pier * is a sand and shingle beach that has very convenient parking and facilities *.
At low tide several species of wading bird can be seen feeding
on the various molluscs and worms that live buried in the sand.
*Here
is a good site to look around for
Lanice conchilega (Sand Mason) which is
fairly abundant in the littoral areas of beach that are mostly made up of sand.
Along
the beach are areas that appear to have a lot of man-made rubble which has been
utilised as attachment points by
Mytilis edulis (Common
Mussel) and
Fucus vesiculosus (Bladder Wrack).
